FAQ

What is WiFi and Wireless Broadband?

"WiFi" is the generally accepted term to describe the set of IEEE standards 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11a, and 802.11n which define how data is carried across wireless radio frequencies. "Wireless Broadband" refers to the capability to deliver broadband Internet access across the medium of a wireless or WiFi connection.

Breifly, how does it work?

Anyone with a WiFi-enabled device (Personal Computer or SmartPhone) who is in range of an Ojai WiFi network node can sign-up as a subscriber to one of our access plans and use the ecoWiFi network to access the Internet.

Are your claims to be green justified?

Yes. Each network node consumes a maximum of just 5 watts - we can run a network of twenty nodes covering at least a square mile using less electricity than it takes to light a 100 watt incandescent light bulb.  Furthermore, each network node is capable of being run entirely on renewable energy directly generated by solar power - how much greener could that be ?

Finally, Ojai WiFi's network eliminates the need for individual broadband routers to be sited in subscribers' premises; each network node can support up to 200 simultaneous users which eliminates consumption of up to 250 units of electricity per user per year.

Is it safe and secure?

Yes. All traffic carried across Ojai WiFi's network is encrypted to prevent hackers gaining access to your data. All interactions between our customers and our customer billing/registration system are handled through an SL server. All subscriber accounts are linked to the unique MAC address of your WiFi-enabled device so that no-one can use your subscriber account on another device.
